There are more than 15 million Americans suffering from gastro-esophageal reflux disorder (GERD), or acid reflux, as it is more commonly known. While the condition can be uncomfortable as well as embarrassing, what with frequent bouts of heartburn and indigestion always threatening to ruin a good meal, there are far more serious side effects to worry about.
Acid reflux is a very common condition and although it isn't considered to be serious unless it becomes chronic, even occasional acid reflux or heartburn can be very uncomfortable. Imagine living with the symptoms of acid reflux on an ongoing basis, however. Not a very pretty picture! And yet, acid reflux is on the rise. More and more people are finding that the symptoms are part of their daily life. As if that isn't bad enough, many people suffer the social stigma of bad breath due to acid reflux.
